AVADE: De-escalation Techniques and Training

The AVADE® Workplace Violence Prevention Training program is designed to educate, prevent, and mitigate the risk of violence in the workplace.

In this 1-Day (8-hour) AVADE® WPV course (with WPV Prevention, De-Escalation, and Self-Defense), participants will learn how to effectively create, develop, and enhance their personal safety with skills, habits, and actions.

Participants will learn strategies and techniques to avoid and prevent violence in the workplace. This course involves group interaction, discussion, lectures, and practice exercises (skills/drills).

AVADE® Workplace Violence Prevention Instructors

David Le May, Certified Master Instructor

David is a certified master instructor in AVADE® Workplace Violence Prevention.  He has trained and certified hundreds of individuals, including healthcare workers and first responders in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Florida.  David is a dynamic and passionate speaker, with a unique presentation style that captures his audiences.

David has close to 20 years of leadership experience in healthcare safety and security and is currently the Operations Manager of Public Safety at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, which is part of the Mass General Brigham Healthcare System.  David is an active member of the International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS), serving as the Boston Chapter Secretary in 2021 and 2022.

David graduated from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and legal studies.  He then completed a graduate program in Community Social Psychology, receiving a graduate certificate in 2013.

Bobby Smith, Certified Master Instructor

Bobby is a certified master instructor in AVADE® Workplace Violence Prevention and certified as an instructor in the AVADE® Handcuffing Tactics and Pepper Spray Defense training programs.  Bobby is also a nationally certified personal trainer and clinical exercise specialist, with 10 years of experience as a health & fitness professional.

Bobby has close to 20 years of leadership experience in healthcare safety and security and is currently the Public Safety Supervisor at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, which is a part of the Mass General Brigham Healthcare System.

Bobby graduated from Worcester State College with an associate degree in health science and is a proud veteran of the United States Army.

Nate Becker-Santos, Certified Master Instructor

Nate is a certified advanced instructor in AVADE® Workplace Violence Prevention and also possesses a certificate for The Reid Technique of Investigative Interviewing and Advanced Interrogations which is often used to great effect in de-escalation and redirection. 

Nate has a decade of leadership and operational experience in security and intelligence operations and is currently the Manager of Training and Lead Investigator at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, which is a member of the Mass General Brigham Healthcare System.

Nate is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. and attended multiple military professional schools including Advanced Infantry Leadership course, Company Level Intelligence and Counterintelligence and the Marine Corps. Presidential Security school in Washington D.C.
