- Joined Woburn PD 1970
- Promoted to Sergeant 1976
- Promoted to Lieutenant 1980
- Promoted to Chief 1986 (Passed by Captain and was promoted directly to Chief)
- Graduate of Northeastern University
- Served many organizations in addition to local Woburn organizations
- FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (LEEDA)
- Mass Chiefs of Police Association (MCOPA)
- Northeast Homeland Security Regional Security Advisory Council (NERAC) Past President of Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (INEMLEC)
- Appointed by the Governor to serve on the E911 Board
- Served in a leadership role on the Boston Aread Police Emergency Radion Network Committee (BAPERN)
- In addition, Chief Mahoney has served as a front man and leader to all law enforcement throughout his career. Phil has always been the “go to guy” when things needed to be done. He is a mentor to many of the Chiefs across the Commonwealth.
