Chief Philip Mahoney, Woburn Police Department

  • Raised in Woburn Ma
  • Graduate of Woburn High School 1964
  • Served in US Navy 1965 through 1969
  • Depolyed and served in Viet Nam for 1 year 1965
  • Joined Woburn PD 1970
  • Promoted to Sergeant 1976
  • Promoted to Lieutenant 1980
  • Promoted to Chief 1986  (Passed by Captain and was promoted directly to Chief)
  • Graduate of Northeastern University
  • Served many organizations in addition to local Woburn organizations
    • FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (LEEDA)
    • Mass Chiefs of Police Association  (MCOPA)
    • Northeast Homeland Security Regional Security Advisory Council (NERAC) Past President of Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (INEMLEC)
    • Appointed by the Governor to serve on the E911 Board
    • Served in a leadership role on the Boston Aread Police Emergency Radion Network Committee (BAPERN)
  • In addition, Chief Mahoney has served as a front man and leader to all law enforcement throughout his career.  Phil has always been the “go to guy” when things needed to be done.  He is a mentor to many of the Chiefs across the Commonwealth.
