Roger W. Cressey
Risk Management in an Uncertain World: The Real Threats and How to Deal with them
As President and founder of Good Harbor Consulting, LLC, Roger Cressey advises clients on homeland security, cybersecurity and counterterrorism issues. He also serves as an on-air counterterrorism analyst for NBC News. He is a Fellow at the Center on Law and Security at New York University.
Previously, Roger served as Chief of Staff to the President’s Critical Infrastructure Protection Board at the White House from November 2001 to September 2002. From November 1999 to November 2001, he served as Director for Transnational Threats on the National Security Council staff, where he was responsible for coordination and implementation of US counterterrorism policy. During this period, he managed the U.S. Government’s response to the Millennium terror alert, the USS COLE attack and the September 11th attacks.
Prior to his White House service, Roger served in the Department of Defense, including as Deputy Director for War Plans. From 1991 – 1995, he served in the Department of State working on Middle East Security issues. He has also served overseas with the U.S. Embassy in Israel and with United Nations peacekeeping missions in Somalia and the former Yugoslavia. While in the former Yugoslavia, he was part of a United Nations team that planned the successful capture of the first individual indicted for war crimes in Croatia.
Roger received his B.A. in political science from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and an M.A. in security policy studies from The George Washington University. He has served as an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University, where he taught a graduate course on U.S. counterterrorism policy. Roger is the recipient of the State Department’s Meritorious and Superior Honor Awards and the Defense Department’s Exceptional Civilian Service Award.

Is Your Investigation Managing You? Tools, Techniques and Tips for Managing Effective and Efficient Workplace Investigations
Vivian Hsu is a principal with Hsu & Associates LLC, a law firm specializing in employment law counseling, training and mediation services. Vivian provides advice to clients on matters relating to workplace issues and the employment relationship, with an emphasis on preventative practices and dispute resolution. She develops and conducts training programs for managers, supervisors, human resource professionals and employees on employment law topics, conducts workplace investigations as an independent fact finder, provides mediation services for employment disputes and serves as a facilitator for business and community groups. Vivian is a member of the faculty for the Certified Discrimination Prevention Training Program of the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, having completed all modules on discrimination, diversity, disability accommodation, sexual harassment, and internal investigations. She has also served on the American Arbitration Association panel of mediators for complaints before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination.
The firm’s clients have included a variety of national and regional employers in diverse fields such as financial services, higher education, internet consulting, advertising, retail, high technology, environmental services, manufacturing, and non-profit institutions. Vivian also provides advice and counsel to senior executives with respect to the negotiation and review of employment-related agreements. Prior to entering private practice in 1995, Vivian served as Division Counsel with Motorola, Inc., providing legal advice and training to managers and human resource professionals. Her experience also includes several years with the WGBH Educational Foundation. She is a frequent speaker for courses and programs on employment law topics.
A graduate of Smith College and Suffolk University School of Law, Vivian is active in professional and community organizations. She serves on the Personnel Board for the Town of Needham, having served as Vice-Chair. She is a member of the Board of Directors and a Past President of the NAPABA Law Foundation, an affiliate of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, having also held positions on NAPABA’s Executive Board and is Co-Chair of the NAPABA Leadership Advisory Council. Vivian is currently a facilitator in the Boston City-Wide Dialogues Project on Racial and Ethnic Diversity and is a Co-Chair for the Business Women’s Breakfast for the Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence. Vivian has served on the Board of Directors of the Community Dispute Settlement Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts and is an active member of the Women’s Business Network, having served as Chair. She has been the Education Chair and a member of the Labor and Employment Law Section Council of the Massachusetts Bar Association, and a Committee Leader of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the Boston Bar Association.

Kathleen Kotwica is EVP and Chief Knowledge Strategist for the Security Executive Council, an innovative problem-solving research and services organization. The Council works with Tier 1 Security Leaders™ to reduce risk and add to corporate profitability in the process. Through the pioneering approach of Collective Knowledge™ the Council serve corporations and organizations of all types and sizes.
Kotwica's responsibilities include establishing short and long-term knowledge management strategies to maximize the Council's innovative output and uphold its mission to the Council community. She leads development and production of Council tools, solutions and publications. She is responsible for operations and has oversight for Council communications and marketing. Kotwica also conducts industry research and analysis to further security and risk management practices.
Kotwica has worked both in academia and business. The combination of experiences has resulted in an approach toward processes and research that maintains a focus on intended business goals. She enjoys identifying patterns in information and stored knowledge that can help businesses maintain a competitive advantage in the market place.
Prior to joining the Security Executive Council she held a wide range of leadership positions including Information Architecture Consultant at a New England consulting firm, Director of Online Research at CXO Media (IDG) and Research Associate at Children's Hospital in Boston, a role in which she conducted behavioral research.
Previous accomplishments include leading the development of resources geared for senior executives, IT and security-related editorial products, construction and deployment of information architectures for several large-scale websites, industry taxonomy schemes, industry benchmarks, and empirical research reports.
Kotwica has a PhD in Experimental Psychology from DePaul University in Chicago. She has co-authored scientific peer-reviewed journal articles and has authored or edited many security industry trade magazine articles. She has spoken at several security-related conferences including CSO Perspectives, SecureWorld Expo and CSCMP.
