Detective Lieutenant John J. McLean

Lieutenant John J. McLean has an exceptional background in Law Enforcement with specialization in the areas of Computer Crime Investigation, Computer Forensics, Computer Child Exploitation and Computer Security. Among other accomplishments Lieutenant McLean has:

  • CISSP, EnCE, CIFI, Paraben’s CELL/PDA Certifications.
  • Bachelor & Master of Science Degrees in Criminal Justice, Northeastern University.
  • Lecturer & Instructor for: Northeastern University, Curry College, Department of Justice, Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Council, Greater Boston Police Council, High Technology Crime Investigation Association, International Information Systems Forensic Association and numerous other private and public associations/groups.
  • Served U.S. Marine Corps, Including Diplomatic Security – MSG Program Assignments.
  • Worked Draper Laboratory, MIT, Cambridge, MA – Security Police/Info. Security.
  • Former U.S. Secret Service, Uniform Division, Washington DC, Police Officer.
  • Medford Police Department, Medford, Massachusetts: Officer, Sergeant, Detective, Lieutenant. (Asst. Network Administrator/Patrol Supv./Det. Supv.Admin.Asst. 1985-2006)
  • U.S. Attorney’s Office, Boston, Massachusetts, Detective/Investigator (1993).

Recognized by courts and colleagues as an expert in High Tech Computer Crime, Lieutenant McLean has investigated hundreds of diverse, technically-challenging computer crime cases, including but not limited to:

Computer Trespass (hacking), Computer Data Destruction, Computer Fraud, Computer Threats, Homicides, Computer Software & Music Piracy, Computer Desktop Forgery, Computer Extortion, Computer Hate Crime, Computer Identity Fraud, Computer Prostitution, Computer Embezzlement, Computer Trade Secret Theft, Computers & Organized Crime and Cyber-Stalking, Rapes and Computer Child Exploitation.

Lieutenant “JJ” McLean has generously assisted numerous Federal, State, Local and Campus Police Agencies with computer crime cases and has testified at Federal/State Grand Juries and the Courts of the Commonwealth as an expert witness.
